We enjoyed a beautiful Easter Sunday – it was all sunshine, good company, great food, and egg dyeing! I hadn’t dyed eggs in a very long time and really enjoyed doing that this year. Also, this bathing bunny video had me laughing and this cat with bunny cartoon is pretty cute too.
I’m looking forward to jelly beans, chocolate bunnies, possibly egg dyeing/hunting, and a delicious Easter brunch in the very near future. Here are some fun Easter-themed things you might enjoy:
We enjoyed some really lovely weather here last week and spent much of the day outside on Saturday with friends; brunch with friends on the patio in Kerrytown on Saturday morning was the perfect way to start our day. It’s great to really have it feel like spring finally and see the daffodils and crocus and other bulbs blooming. I actually wore flats for the first time since last fall and didn’t even need a jacket – it may seem silly to mention this, but it was a big deal for me. Our friend Allison commented that it’s nice that you are finally seeing people again too - both because they’re spending time outdoors (enjoying the sunshine) and because they’re not covered under layers and layers of hats, scarves, parkas, etc.
Sunset at Michigan Stadium on Thursday evening was quite spectacular too!
The sunshine here yesterday was much appreciated and we even broke out our grill for the first time this season. Ryan and I decided that we should make it a belated New Year’s resolution to grill more this spring/summer – it’s so nice to enjoy a little sunshine and our patio while we cook dinner! When the sun begins to set, we get the most beautiful light in our front room – it’s kind of magical…
After enjoying a delicious blueberry pancake breakfast, it was nice enough yesterday that we were able to get outside and start some yard cleanup for spring. We also managed to wash our windows on the outside which made a huge difference; I don’t know why we waited so long to do that, but it’s amazing what a difference just washing your windows can make - so nice to have some warm sunshine and clean windows to see the world through!
And today (besides being National Beer Day, Coffee Cake Day, Caramel Popcorn Day, No Housework Day, and World Health Day) is my Mom’s birthday – Happy birthday, Mom!!!
Yesterday I enjoyed a nice birthday dinner out with Ryan where I treated myself to a Rose Hip Martini which was not only tasty but also lovely to look at with the little rosebud floating in the glass. We had plenty of rain too, which I didn’t mind so much as I was just happy it wasn’t snowing – plus I really do believe that April showers bring May flowers, which I’m so looking forward to!
If you were ever curious to know, here are some fun facts about April 3rd:
- National Chocolate Mousse Day
- National Don’t Go To Work Unless It’s Fun Day
- National Tweed Day
- National Find A Rainbow Day
- World Party Day
- Famous Birthdays: Alec Baldwin (actor), Marlon Brando (actor), Doris Day (actress), Jane Goodall (primatologist, ethologist, anthropologist), Leslie Howard (actor), Washington Irving (author), Eddie Murphy (actor)
Apparently today is National Walk Around Things Day – so if you see something, be sure to walk around it.
…unless it’s the band “Haim”, in which case there is – that was my bad joke this morning, which didn’t really make much sense but that I was convinced Ryan didn’t appreciate nearly enough. Also, I think that Haim sounds a bit like Annie Lennox, don’t you?
This week officially marks the beginning of April, Ryan saw some spring bulbs beginning to come up from the ground on his morning walk with Melody, we had a nice sunny day yesterday, and today the high is nearly 60…things are looking up!
All I can do, when I wake up in the morning and it’s late March and the “feels like” temperature is in the single digits and there’s fresh snow on the ground, is buy myself more flowers and put them all over the house….
I’m not really a basketball fan, but Ryan is. And since he signed me up to fill out my own bracket for a group he’s in, I suddenly find myself invested in it in a way I’ve never been before…cut to flashback of me on the couch Saturday evening yelling at the TV, at a player from the team I had not picked to win a particular game, “Stupid lady hair!” Yes, that was my insult, “stupid lady hair”. Call me old fashioned, but I don’t feel that having hair long enough that you have to wear a headband to hold it back while you run up and down the court playing basketball is a good look for a college-age male athlete (ok, ok…it may have had something to do with the fact that he was a player for the team I didn’t want to win too).
Things that make me happy:
- When you’re eating cereal and you find a super-raisin cluster!
- That moment with the sunlight comes streaming in your window and you feel that everything is right with the world.
- Spring flowers, like the lovely hyacinth in a vase in our house below.
- Thinking about what we’ll plant in our summer garden this year.
- Winning in your group’s ESPN Tournament Challenge – come on Michigan, I believe in you!
Happy spring; today marks the first official day of spring for 2014 (at precisely 12:57pm EDT)! And with that in mind, check out the following:
