We had a busy weekend with a little fun in between; beautiful weather and fun with friends on Friday and Saturday, complete with a fabulous, double birthday celebration, garden cocktail party (where I finally found a reason to debut this fun party dress) along with some shoe molding installation and trim paint in our house mixed in. It feels so great to be wrapping up some of the finishing touches and make our house feel polished and pretty. Ryan made these delicious banana nutella crepes for brunch on Sunday and we picked more heirloom tomatoes and hydrangeas from our garden.
Tomorrow is Ryan’s birthday and we had a pre-celebration with a cheeseburger cake last night. When we saw this in the dessert case at Whole Foods, we couldn’t pass it up – it’s a cake…that looks like a cheeseburger! And we just so happened to be grilling hot dogs & bratwurst for dinner, so it had to go home with us. Wimpy would have been proud; Wimpy loves his hamburgers. Mmmmm, delicious cheeseburger cake…
We celebrated Averie’s first birthday with a party last weekend at the lovely home of Ralph & Suzanne & all had a wonderful time! It was great to see & spend time with so many friends & to watch Averie very daintily take apart her first birthday cake; like the true lady that she is, she seemed a bit unsure about diving right into it in front of an audience of adoring onlookers. Happy birthday, little A, we love you!
Months ago, our friend Michael shared a dream with us…to make & eat a dessert version of a Turducken which he named a Coopieke. A Coopieke is a cookie inside of a pie inside of a cake. Michael celebrated his birthday with us last weekend and thus the dream was realized – we made him a Coopieke & it really was delicious!
We started with a large chocolate chip cookie, then we baked the pie crust separately and put together a no-bake chocolate pie which we layered the cookie inside of, then we baked a chocolate cake, cut the cake into layers, topped each layer with chocolate frosting, cut out the center to place the pie (or coo-pie, I guess I should say) inside, inserted the pie into the cake, & then frosted the whole thing with vanilla frosting. If you can’t decide if you’d rather have a cookie, pie, or cake, then just have all three!
Happy birthday, to you, Dad!
You can fix just about anything, you play a mean guitar, and from the looks of this picture you would’ve killed it on the runway too.
We drove to Texas for Christmas with a car full of presents, our adorable dog, & delicious treats from Michigan (Zzang! bars, fresh MI apple cider, Trader Joe’s Joe Joe’s, etc.) & spent a wonderful holiday with our family. We enjoyed celebrating my brother’s 30th birthday on Christmas Eve (Ryan made a Banana Split Cake from scratch, yum!) & visiting with our family in Gatesville & Abilene. It was so nice to be home for Christmas!
Today is my sweetie’s birthday & there will be much rejoicing – complete with cupcakes, a delicious dinner out on the town, & a workout he’s named “It’s my party & you’ll cry if I want you to.” Happy birthday, baby – I look forward to celebrating with you for many years to come!
Today my amazing Dad celebrates his birthday – happy birthday, to you, Dad! Heartaches by Ted Weems was at the top of the Billboard charts & a gallon of gas cost 15 cents on the day my Dad was born.
As you should already know by now, if you’re a regular reader of our blog or you know Ryan & I personally, Ryan is a fantastic cook & an excellent baker. When he asked me what kind of cupcakes I’d like him to make me for my birthday, I decided I wanted him to make something different & that he’d never baked before from our Vegan Cupcakes Take Over The World cookbook & I selected these Blueberry Lemon Creme Cupcakes (which he made both vegan & gluten free). Blueberries & lemon & cake (three things I love!) – I chose wisely, because these were pretty amazing; yum & happy birthday to me!
If you’d like this recipe, I highly recommend you buy the book; the cupcakes are amazing & you won’t be disappointed! Some of my other, personal favorites from this book are Banana Split Cupcakes, Coconut Lime Cupcakes, Maple Cupcakes with Creamy Maple Frosting & Sugared Walnuts, Chai Latte Cupcakes, Apple Cider Cupcakes, & the list goes on…
